Why am I looking at houses? No. I'm not moving back...Yet.

The house we are renting sold. We have to move by November 14th. The house we planned to rent fell through (the tenants aren't moving now). The back up has rented.

I'm stressing and yearning for home, where house prices and gas prices make (more) sense and family isn't 20 hours of driving away.

On top of that, V broke her ankle and had surgery (2 screws), we've had a stomach bug (which still has 3 potential victims to claim), our children are developing smokers cough (and none of us smoke) and I've had complaints from 2 of an ear ache. It's been a long week and a half. I miss the bi-polar weather, I miss my family, I miss football where everyone turns into a total wacko. I miss Oklahoma.

Can you tell I'm disenchanted and stressed?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-2382207934207519272012-04-13T18:39:00.001-07:002012-04-13T18:39:37.206-07:00SPICE RACK

I made this spice rack and it was asked how I did it. Here are the links to making this handy kitchen tool.

Here are the basic instructions.
This is the basic idea. I took liberty in how I produced this.

These are the supplies I used:
30-2.5 oz tins and 10-4 oz tins
Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets I used 2 per 2.5 oz container and 3 per 4 oz container, plus I bought more to play with. These are not cheap, but they work better than any other magnet option I have found. This is the best price I have found for these magnets.
Magnet Board (IKEA) I felt it would be too easy to knock these off the refrigerator when the door got slammed.
J-B Weld I bought it at Wal-Mart
Lable Maker I bought this unit at Wal-Mart and clear labels. I labeled them on the front in clear and on the back in white. This is if multiple containers are ever opened and hard to identify.

The bottom 10 containers are the 4 oz and the rest are the 2.5 oz. I think I may order 2 more just to have even rows. I'm a bit OCD like that.

I will give a brief run down of a few things.

When we moved out here, we came with a 25ft RV. All 7 of us (and the dog) lived in the RV for 4 weeks, in the Bate's Motel of RV Parks in Mojave, CA. A KAO it was not. We decided to us the California Virtual Academy (K12) for school and 165 lbs of books, a desktop computer and a printer arrived. They more than covered our couch and I had no place to store them. I cried. I looked for a cheap house to rent.

Since we hadn't (and still haven't) sold the house in B'ville I looked for cheap and month to month. Cheap here is more expensive than our OK house mortgage. I relented when I found a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, month to month, with a decent sized living area for being only an 860 sq ft house. It was better than the RV. It was $850 all bills paid. Our mortgage on 2700 sq ft and 5 bedrooms is around $730 in OK.

We kept thinking the house will sell and we will be able to find something and move on. The month to month would allow us to leave with adequate notice to our landlord. It's been just over 10 months and if nothing else we need a second bathroom, and 3rd bedroom.

I put in a rental app for the first 4 bedroom house I have found for less than 2K a month ($1100). We'll find out next week if we get the house. We've had found places that are quickly taken, or the landlord thinks 5 kids is too many in a 3 bedroom or that won't allow pets. As it stands I'm not holding my breath, but I am praying for more space and a nicer area (the house is in Tehachapi, not Mojave).

That's a brief update of our CA adventure in housing, please pray we get the house and continue to pray for the sale of our B'ville house. This home school mom needs more room and freedom for her kids. Mojave is 1200 people with an inner city demographic. My children have gone from freedom, to prison.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-44452874425370776122011-09-08T08:49:00.000-07:002011-09-08T08:49:17.467-07:00Keurig Coffee Maker Give Away!I would love to win this.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-23985176264866983902011-04-28T22:47:00.000-07:002011-04-28T22:47:14.819-07:00Giving UpVictoria broke my heart tonight.

For those of you who don't know V suffers from something called convergence excess, it is an ocular development issue which make reading very difficult. V has been through 5 months of vision therapy and still have HUGE struggles.

Tonight she said something that brought me to tears. She said she would give up climbing to be able to read well. If you don't know V you don't know that she is a tree, pole, rope, cliff and wall climbing crazy person. If it can be climbed she will attempt it and she finds great pleasure in climbing. For her to say something like that shows how hard not reading well is for her.

I love her.

What would you give up in place of you biggest struggle? I honestly can't answer that.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-14345278792409738732011-04-11T14:54:00.000-07:002011-04-11T14:54:05.192-07:00Zero GravityThis is video of Jonathan at Zero G on G Force One.

Okay, so CA may not be home yet, but it's been pretty good. I will not complain about 65 degrees in January.

Our story continues...

We planned to leave on Monday the 17th. We were struggling to get everything done to the house, the truck packed and the house cleaned. Honestly it didn't all get done by us and we left the 18th.

On Sunday our neighbor Allen (one of Jonathan's best friends) said, "You aren't leaving tomorrow." I had been saying it, but Jonathan wasn't really hearing me. I was thankful that Allen gave him perspective.

We worked like dogs all Monday. I ran and picked up the car carrier to move Jonathan's 1954 Pontiac Chieftan, and we got it loaded on the trailer and hooked to his truck. The final plan was to park the Pontiac at the Blackberry Farm and park the truck there and call a transport company to bring the truck to Cali, so we could drive as a family. We ran full bore and we got to bed at 2 am Tuesday. We all slept on the living room floor.

Things honestly looked bleak for our Tuesday departure until I had an epiphany at 12:30 while I took a final shower before we left. I solved the problem of more trash that we had no place to put.

We rolled away from the house at about 10 and made a quick return to Lowe's, grabbed breakfast at McD's and drove to the farm.

After unloading the car we ran for a final meal at Panda in Stillwater and off we went.

We were far enough behind that we didn't get to the pikepass office before it closed (it closes at 4:30 and we were there at 4:40). We ran by my sister Michelle's and dropped the passes in her mailbox and in our fog didn't see my b-i-l Steve as we pulled away.

Oddly enough we did see Michelle driving the opposite direction on the Kilpatrick Turnpike.

We did make Amarillo, by 10:30 and we rolled into a KOA near Folsom Rd. We actually noticed that the next morning and JR started busting out in some Johnny Cash, even though Folsom Prison is in CA.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-1402593731981806222011-01-24T20:01:00.000-08:002011-01-24T20:01:36.094-08:00Our story begins......this past August. I had hit burn out point and opted to put the kids in school, where we experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. Okay maybe just the good and the bad. I was torn, but I did it anyway.

The second day of school a water line busted under the living room. The trunk line for the a/c blocked the access, so the renovation we knew needed done began and we tore the room up and cut a hole in the sub floor to fix the line bust.

So began a renovation adventure that included removing flooring, paneling, trim, a non load bearing wall, and a doorway. The renovation involved leveling our sub floor, wiring, hanging a projector, a power projector screen, surround sound boxes, new trim and carpet. We did all the work except for the carpet.

During this time, Jonathan's boss left NORDAM and got a job with TSC. Things at NORDAM changed and though Jonathan enjoyed working there he didn't feel like there was a great possibility for advancement soon. He thought he needed to look for the next step in his career and he sent his resume to TSC.

The final job on the living room was the carpet and the day it was installed (Wednesday, November 17th) he was told TSC would be bringing him to CA for an interview soon. I told him that this happened, b/c I no longer hated our fixer upper house. HA!

December came and JR, CAR and I went to CA for his interview. I kept this quiet, b/c we had thought that we were headed to Singapore and Shanghai at different points with NORDAM and it never happened. I just didn't want to talk about something that might not happen (again).

JR got his job offer on Dec 23rd, countered the 26th and they finalized his agreement on the 28th. Can you see my head spinning.

On January 12th JR mentioned buying his friend Thom's RV and living in it instead of renting a house. I thought he was nuts for about 30 minutes and then I changed my mind (see previous blog post).

We ran full bore until Tuesday, January 17th when we drove away from Oklahoma.

God's timing is amazing. I put my kids in school, in time for my living room to be renovated, in time to put it on the market to sell, so we could move half way across the country.

I now have internet at the ghetto (literally) RV park in Mojave, CA. We will be changing parks at the end of the week to one that is nice (seriously there are some very nice ones). I'll dump my camera and blackberry soon so you can take a look at our travels and our crazy life.

Much more to follow...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-29071729001416071042011-01-17T17:57:00.000-08:002011-01-17T17:57:01.525-08:00The Grapes of Wrath Redux part 1It was a valiant effort, but we didn't leave today. We will have success tomorrow. We will drop off the 1954 Pontiac Cheiftan and the F-150 and we will leave with our new "house".
Jonathan threw out a suggestion Wednesday of last week and I thought he was nuts...then I changed my mind.

We are not renting a house when we move to California.

When you rent a house you move in and get settled a dry rot seems to set in.

We are moving into the state of California...in a 26ft travel trailer. For perspective our living room is 15 X 35 and the trailer is 26 X 8. We will live and homeschool, with Californai K12, the first few months we are there and live (yes all 7 of us in this trailer). We plan to park it in Mojave and we will be in walking distance of JR's office, and it's supposed to be 60-65 degrees most days. We will be forced to get out of the trailer and go to Yosemite, Big Sur, L.A. and tons of other places. We will embrace our adventure and get to know our new home, before finding a home.

When we moved to Bartlesville 5 years ago there was a lot we wanted to explore...and didn't. Yes we had lots of renovation projects and we had 3 more children, but we didn't take advantage of what there was to experience here.

Are we mad or genius...only time and dead bodies will tell. HA!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-77482782855355835552011-01-03T07:29:00.000-08:002011-01-03T08:39:20.604-08:00And so the story goes...We are moving from Bartlesville. I will no longer be able to see a Frank Llyod Wright skyscraper from my front yard.
No, we have no place to live yet.

Yes, we will probably live in a hotel with 5 kids and a chocolate lab until we rent some place.

Jonathan starts his new job on January 24th in Mojave, CA.

He put his notice in at Nordam on the 3rd.

He will be the program manger for the interior of the spaceship for TSC (the Spaceship Company, owned by Virgin Galactic and Sir Richard Branson).

No, we are not prepared.

Yes, we will be crazy before it's all over.

Yes, we like it that way.

No, we will not buy a fixer upper in California. Two has been enough (one in OKC and one in Bartlesville).

I'm not sure what else to say, but if you know someone who wants a really cool 110 year old house that has had a lot of restoration done, let me know. It will be for sale or lease and we will be listing it soon.
5-8 blocks from downtown, the library, the Bartlesville Community Center, COP offices, Post Office, YMCA, numerous banks and churches (great walking distance). Outside of Wal-Mart, Lowe's and our church I could hang out in walking distance. The best restaurant in town is downtown (Frank and Lola's).
40 minutes to downtown Tulsa with little traffic, Jonathan was working 35 minutes away in north Tulsa and the commute wasn't bad.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-58362217535617777492010-12-26T11:06:00.000-08:002010-12-26T11:06:01.518-08:00CHRISTmas? Really?I'm making an executive decision. Next years Christmas will be different. The only mention of Christ all day was Jonathan and I sining carols in the car.

Next year there will be no gifts Christmas day, we will do them a different day and our day is going to be centered where it should be. The gifts and family stress ruin the day for me.

It may not be Christ's actual birthday, but I would like to celebrate it for what it is supposed to represent, not a gift and stress free for all.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-6112874044449181922010-12-26T11:02:00.001-08:002010-12-26T11:02:50.727-08:00Time for change. There are many changes approaching in my life that I can't wait to tell you about.

You'll just have to wait though.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-2297327921272364322010-06-07T19:59:00.000-07:002010-06-07T19:59:34.421-07:00All grown up.One week.

All it took was one week.

Last weekend Caroline Amelia (affectionately known as CAR) was a baby.

As of Saturday she is no longer.

Last weekend she had 2 teeth. This weekend she has 4.

Last weekend she rolled over and turned around, but didn't move much. This weekend she military crawls (and fast).

Last weekend you had to sit her up and then she would fall on her head. This weekend she sits up on her own.

Last weekend Lego's, crushed popcorn and Cheez-its were okay. This weekend I had to clean up the floor.

Last weekend the playpen was fun. This weekend she wants freedom.

Last weekend her crib at the top setting and even the bassinet were still okay. This week I know pulling up will soon follow.

She's not even 7 months old, but I would like for someone to tell me where my baby went.

Sigh.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-86041769118069960522010-05-29T14:06:00.000-07:002010-05-29T14:06:58.807-07:00It's a secret entrance! We are replacing the air conditioner right now.

Jonathan just opened the crawl space where a floor furnace used to be.

Owen yelled, "There's a secret entrance!"

Alex yelled, "It's a secret passage way!"

I think I need to confiscate the Scooby-Doo DVD's.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-29276671886375025252010-05-18T09:38:00.000-07:002010-05-18T09:43:12.822-07:00Going down in a BLAZE of glory. Literally.Sunday evening it was a little warm in our house. I asked JR if he would rather I turn on the attic fan and open some windows or turn on the a/c and suck out some humidity. He was cuddling CAR, so I wanted him to be comfy (she's a sweaty baby). We haven't run our a/c much so far this year and JR said to turn on the a/c for a few minutes.

2 minutes after turning it on Jackson said, "Hey Mom! The air conditioner is on fire." I look and the fan is spinning and flames are coming out of the top. I ran and turned off the thermostat. JR and I ran out and got the water hose and dowsed the unit. It didn't blow the fuses either. I don't know how. Needless to say I went and disconnected the fuses in the box while JR continued to run the water hose.

Hey at least my ducts didn't catch on fire. Also for the record the central heat and air unit is older than I am (over 31 years old). I should be thankful it has worked the last 5 years.

One friend asked me why weird things always happen to me. I'm not sure that they do, I think things sounds funnier coming from my kids.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-2394414167951771072010-05-12T14:07:00.000-07:002010-05-12T14:10:05.581-07:00inconsistancyThis year...

...March didn't come in like a lion and go out like a lamb.

...April showers were rare and my May flowers came from watering my yard.

The one thing that is true and needs a rhyme is that May temperature fluctuations bring tornadoes, but I haven't been able to make it work yet.

Monday I received a text asking if my family was okay. A tornado hit the edge of Norman. My family is all great and no one was near it. It just served as a reminder that the first 2 weeks in May are usually tornado weather.

My camera is charged and I'm ready to watch the sky (and then duck and cover).Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-9947853555008293802010-05-11T15:35:00.000-07:002010-05-11T15:35:11.804-07:006 monthsThis happened 6 month ago today. My oldest sister eloped yesterday, while in Texas for business. No, she didn't just meet her husband in Texas. They've been dating for 2-3 years. I'm not really sure how long, but for a while.

I asked if I could call him bro since we had no brothers. Steve said I could call him whatever I wanted...that's pretty loaded. Hahaha!

CONGRATS MICHELLE AND STEVE!

Also, eloping...smart...very smart.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15752783.post-9105159110761381242010-05-06T15:43:00.000-07:002010-05-08T09:53:04.429-07:00Check it out and pass it on.She's officially for sale.
I sat at the kitchen table with ice on my ear and my mother stabbed my ear with a needle.

When I was 18 I added a 2nd, 3rd and 4th (cartilage) hole to my right ear and a 2nd on my left. Those were done with a piercing gun and against my mothers wishes. I paid for it with my own money and I managed to keep my ears covered for 2 months.

I let the 2nd and 3rd holes close. The 4th never did.

Over the years I've stopped wearing earring, except on Sundays or on the rare occasion that I get really "ready". Then my 1st holes closed. Yesterday I repierced them at home.

V doesn't have her ears pierced and I told her that when she was ready to take care of them she could, but that she had to take responsibility for cleaning and care.

She found it a little freaky that I just stabbed myself.

I'm debating taking her to get them done or going the kitchen chair route when she's ready. They both hurt equally (not that bad). Do you have an opinion?
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
